4 Benefits to Incorporating Breathwork in Your Routine

In a number of our past Connections events, the topic of breathwork - using breathing techniques to find calm - has come up as a frequently used mental health resource. So, we decided to host an event on the topic, just to see what techniques are most often used by entrepreneurs, and what benefits they get from using them.

What transpired was a conversation that covered a wide variety of topics, from COVID to news fasting and burnout, and how breathwork has helped many founders find center. No matter the technique, it’s clear that breathing can have a big impact on your overall well-being.

Here are four benefits to incorporating a breathing technique into your daily routine:

1. Presence:

A few founders mentioned using breathwork to be more present in the moment. One entrepreneur described it as pressing the pause button and allowing your whole self to catch up to the present.

2. Awareness:

Another founder mentioned using breathing techniques to become more aware, both physically and mentally. Breathwork allows her to be more aware of how she’s feeling, and how she’s handling herself throughout the day.

3. Stress Management:

All of the entrepreneurs in attendance mentioned using some form of breathwork to manage their stress. Some of the mentioned benefits include: stopping a racing mind, slowing a racing heart, relieving tension in the body, etc.

4. Physiology:

A couple of founders discussed the inner physiological benefits of using breathwork to find calm. One mentioned using breathing techniques to fight infection. Another discussed the effect on the adrenal system, and how breathwork physically rids anxiety from the body.

The benefits of using breathwork are immeasurable and far surpass the four discussed during this event. If breathwork isn’t yet a part of your daily routine, start off small. When you start feeling overwhelmed, remind yourself to pause and take a few deep breaths. Also, keep in mind that our Peak Ability Training offers some guidance in breathwork as well.

Our Connections events give entrepreneurs the opportunity to share lessons learned and truly connect with other Community members on a deeper level. Each event begins with the introduction of a topic of critical importance to entrepreneurs, which we then discuss informally as a group. Want to up-level your peer group with other entrepreneurs who are focused on improving their health and performance? The Connections events are where we gather and learn.
